The Mission of the Friends of the Gainesville Organic Blueberry Farm is To foster harmony in our community and provide access to fresh local food, while working together to preserve our historic neighborhood farm.
We pursue this goal primarily by using a work trade agreement whereby after signing a liability waiver and working a total of 8 hours in the rows (2 to 4 hours at a time, its hard work!) members are issued a pickin card which allows them to pick the delicious organic blueberries for free all season long (late may to mid July). In so doing we are maintaining the productivity of the bushes and helping to increase the viability of the farm, while bringing new adults and children out to see where food comes from and fall in love with the farm – and so, we hope, insuring its continuity as a farm. Any card bearing member may bring as many children as they can safely handle to pick for free all season long- we love kids coming out to the farm!
