Hello Friends of the Gainesville Organic Blueberry Farm,
A Great Big Thank You to all the wonderful volunteers and junior volunteers!!! Its great to see so many folks willing to come out and help out in the rows so there will be berries to pick for years to come. It is easy to see the difference we are making, and gives such a satisfying feeling at the end of each work day. Giving back to the farm is a concrete way to help the stability of our local food systems, and help insure that we and our children and hopefully generations to come will be able to enjoy and improve this precious local farm! I feel blessed to be able to work in the fields with such special folks.
Well the bushes are leafing out and it will soon be too late to transplant blueberry suckers, so bring your plastic bag and I will bring a shovel and we can dig up more blueberry plants growing where they will get mowed. And the flowers are bustin out so we will be cutting but not pulling vines and brush out of the berry bushes tomorrow, Sunday and Tuesday at 4 pm. I will be in the barnyard gardens with plenty of tools. You bring gloves, long sleeves and plenty of water, and snacks for any little ones you bring. Kids are very welcome but please leave pet friends at home. We will be finishing up the 2 bridges patch and maybe moving on to another depending on how much we get done.
Tomorrow at 2pm, I will be hosting an open house(hive) at my beehives at the farm. If you are interested in bees and would like to see inside a hive (and are not allergic to bees!), c’mon out tomorrow and we’ll get into the heart of a hive! (check out the pix attached- last Saturday I caught a swarm in a bucket at the farm and placed them in a homemade hive, yesterday I looked inside and found they had drwn nice comb on top bars-I guess there’s something to that top bar method! If you have a veil or gloves might want to bring them.
Today its time to pitch in at the Co-op and earn some store credit! YeeeeHaaaawwww! Read on below!
Hope to see youo down at the Farm!
